'It's certainly possible,' says Iwata.






Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that the camera built-in to the Wii U controller may feature facial recognition.





Speaking in the latest Iwata Asks, he revealed: 'It certainly seems possible from an engineering standpoint that the camera will recognize you if you position the new controller to look at you'.





He cited WiiFit as an example of why this would be useful. As seen in the the Wii U reveal trailer (see below), the controller can be used in conjunction with the Balance Board so you can weigh yourself without using a TV.

Reggie 'Absolutely' Fils-Aime has promised the Wii U device will offer 'fantastic' value for money.





The Nintendo of America boss was speaking in an interview with GameTrailers. When asked whether Wii U will be priced competitively with PS3 and Xbox 360 he replied, predictably, 'Absolutely.'





He added, 'What I want to focus on is, is it going to offer the consumer a competitive value when it comes out? And the answer is,' wait for it, 'absolutely.'

Let me lay a hypothetical on you. Let's say that tomorrow, a major update is released for StarCraft 2, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2 or whatever your favorite, tightly balanced competitive online game may be. This update greatly reduces the effectiveness of many of your trusty techniques, but delivers a handful of overwhelming improvements to a select few others. It's fair to assume that the outrage over this un-balancing would be deafening, and that players would demand an explanation.



'While we originally designed this title with strong competitive balance in mind,' explains your favorite developer, 'we've decided to purposely make these specific elements overly powerful as to manufacture a competitive experience amongst players.'



Sounds preposterous, right? After all, who would purposely sabotage their own title? Now for the Shyamalanian twist: That is precisely what is happening with the release of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. (Spoilers, I know).

Miyamoto wants to see it in HD.






Pikmin 3 will be a Wii U title, Shigeru Miyamoto has announced.





The Nintendo talisman revealed that he decided to delay development on the planned Wii threequel and move it over to the system's just-announced successor. He said that he thought the franchise will be especially suited to HD visuals.





No release window was mooted but Miyamoto said that as the framework for the game is already in place it might not be too long into the Wii U's life before the title arrives.

Wii U 'won't use Blu-ray' - Nintendo: "Backwards compatible console won't 'up-res' old Wii games either.


Wii U won't support the Blu-ray media format, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed.
